TOPIKU: The Official Hat of World Leaders
Tuesday, November 16, 2022 will forever remain a milestone in Topiku history. As part of the G20 Summit last week, Indonesian President Joko Widodo took fellow world leaders on a tour of the Taman Hutan Raya Ngurah Rai mangrove forest. See the white baseball cap on US President Joe Biden? We made that hat!
The Topiku team created custom sustainable headwear for this event: white classic dad hats embroidered with the G20 logo. We had no idea that we would be seeing presidents and prime ministers would be wearing our hats, and are still in disbelief. We are proud to be a part of this historic gathering, especially being featured during the tree-planting ceremony, symbolic of the 20 membership nations working together to tackle climate change.
What makes this event even more special is the announcement of a $20 billion climate finance fund to help Indonesia move away from coal. The deal was brokered by the United States, Indonesia, and Japan, and is the single largest climate finance transaction ever, according to a senior US Treasury Department official.
Together, we hope to mobilize more than $20 billion to support Indonesia’s efforts to reduce emissions and expand renewable energy and support workers most affected by the transition away from coal.”
US President Joe Biden
Indonesia also agreed to establish a framework to reach net-zero emissions in the power sector by 2050, committing to the more widespread use of renewable energy sources. The financing deal is known as a “just energy transition partnership” or JETP. It is a great start, however, it is estimated that $600 billion dollars is needed for Southeast Asia’s largest economy to phase out coal-based electricity.
The Topiku team is as energized as ever to keep playing our part in being an industry leader and delivering on our promise to provide you the world’s most sustainable hats. After all, the world’s top dads wear our dad hats!
Changing the world starts with changing your world.
